I am so very fortunate to have had the opportunity to visit the beautiful Galapagos Islands. The islands, which belong to Ecuador, hug the equator and are six hundred miles off of the coast of South America. I visited the islands aboard the beautiful National Geographic Ship, Endeavour. Each day in the Galapagos brought new wonders. Each island is different. It is odd to see flamingos and penguins share a habitat. I explored individual ecosystems and encountered tame animals. One can walk up to a sea lion, a blue footed boobie or an iguana and look them in the eye. I walked on the beach amidst families of sea lions and shared a lava flow among hundreds of iguanas basking in the sun. This experience was so profound and special.
